Fashion Baby: Boom & Bloom

It's been a major-ly busy start to the year. With awards season and fashion weeks underway. the high street stores unveiling their S/S 2011 collections and celebrity stories, you wouldn't believe we're still only in January.

With so much going on we're also witnessing the fashion baby boom, which highlights maternity fashion and keeping up with the trends as well as the bump.

Pregnancy is a time when a woman's body pushes limits, crosses boundaries and overcomes hurdles but if you're in the the public eye, it's also a time when your fashion must do the same!

With celebrities like Victoria Beckham, Rachel Zoe, Natalie Portman and other announcing their pregnancies, we focus more on what they're wearing and how they've dressed their bump.

As a stylist who caters to all clients including the pregnant ones, I know how important it is to keep their fashion selects on trend, stylish and most importantly comfortable.

Whether you're a celebrity or civilian, there are so much choices in maternity wear but getting the right fits, sizes and style can still prove difficult. But there are key points to note during the plumping period.

Free flowing maxi dresses are a great starting point for the bump. As well as hiding a multiple of sins (literally!) they, provided they are fitted beneath the bust, provide comfort and stylish ease.
They also work well for day and night looks so you're never limited.

T-shirt dresses may be your day time saviour as they work well tucked in to bottoms as well as with opaque tights with boots or pumps or sandals.

Waistcoats are key pieces as they re-form your expanding silhouette. If the outfit is minimalistic, add a studded or embellished piece for edge.

Maxi skirts are so hot right now but they are so cool for school. Team with the catwalk key white tee for the yummy mummy look.

Jeans are probably the hardest pieces to find and flatter. Those visible elastic waists are so not catwalk chic but neither is an open zip on your normal jeans. Go with jeggings for your blooming season, not only are they comfortable, they come in different thicknesses so you still feel like your wearing jeans.

The fashion is always changing but the style is still the same that's why we watch to see what the celebs will be wearing, whether they choose style over comfort, comfort over style or find a way to blend the two evenly, either way we're still watching.

I'm imagining the fashion babies first word GUC-CI (forget MUM-MY!)
